Born from the gritty annals of Detroit’s seminal music history are The Muggs: a three-piece blues rock band whose incendiary live shows and original classic rock-fueled jams have garnered them a place on the dashboard of the Motor City’s most revered music groups.
Formed in 2000, the three original members included Danny Methric on guitar and lead vocals, Tony DeNardo on bass guitar and backing vocals, and Matt Rost on drums. Drummer Todd Glass replaced Rost in 2009. In 2001 The Muggs were rising stars on the local scene when tragedy struck in the form of a stroke that felled bassist DeNardo - nearly ending his life at 28. As rock and roll fairytales go, this one has a happy ending – after two years of grueling rehab, the band worked together to modify DeNardo’s bass duties.
Eschewing tradition, DeNardo learned to play his bass lines on a Fender Rhodes piano with one hand. DeNardo’s struggles and the band’s refusal to leave him behind gained them even greater awareness and grew The Muggs’ Detroit fan baseBorn from the gritty annals of Detroit’s seminal music history are The Muggs: a three-piece blues rock band whose incendiary live shows and original classic rock-fueled jams have garnered them a place on the dashboard of the Motor City’s most revered music groups.
